5 Reasons to love Har Ki Dun valley

Har Ki Dun is a cradle shaped hanging valley in Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 11675 ft. The distance of the valley from Taluka is 26 km. Har Ki Dun valley is an unspoiled and unadulterated place; perfect for a getaway. It is known as a trekker’s paradise with an adventurous ascent and descent. Scenic view of mountain peaks, small streams, flowing river and variety of flowers will win your hearts. The best time to visit is spring (March-April). It is 200 km from Dehradun and the total distance covered is 77 km.

1. Experiencing the  life of Osla village 

Osla village is a beautiful and epic village on the way to Har Ki Dun. It is a traditional village which follows the tradition to worship Duryodhana from Mahabharata. It is believed that Duryodhana might have been a boon for the village. In the remembrance of Duryodhan, a temple was built to worship; from that day till today Duryodhan is the only god worshipped there. The village follows the “king rule” who visits once a year and at that time, a pooja is conducted for the entire village.

The temples in Osla, follow rigid traditions. A primary one being: do not touch anything in the temple. The hospitality is very welcoming and heartwarming. You can visit Osla village on the way to Hampta Pass.

The village people are highly attached to the roots as they earn their living through agricultural activities by growing rajma, potato and rice. Others do weaving to make jackets and coats.

You can purchase their products or items directly from them as this would be helpful for them. 

2. Camping adventure

Har Ki Dun has a lot of campsites with amazing views, where you can pitch your tents, have a bonfire with music and soak the beauty of nature within you. 3. Explore the variety of flora and fauna

 While trekking from Osla to Sankri you will be passing by the eye-catching view of a variety of trees, plants, birds, and species due to the wildlife sanctuary located in the Garhwal region. Wide variety of fauna like Brown Deer, Musk Deer, Koklass Pheasant, Bearded Vulture, Golden Eagle, Parakeets and variety of flora like orchids, Blue lilies, roses, Primulas, and Potentillas can be spotted and admired.

4. Panoramic mountain view 

Do you know the Pandavas from Mahabharat; they took the same path to ascend towards Mt.Swargarohini. The view of the mountains from this trek is just astonishing with the peaks Swargarohini-1,2,3, Bandarpoonch, and Black peak. The beauty of the Himalayan region can be explored at its best in this valley. Walking through the green grasslands, moraine ridges and pine forest will take you to the beautiful and peaceful land.

1. The trek takes place through eco-friendly zones, do not encourage litter 

2. Do not wander off on your own any point during the trek. 

3. Alcohol and smoking are not advisable. 

4. Please ensure that you are carrying personal medications. 

5. Please take care of your own baggage. 

6. Carefully follow the instructions of the trek leader.

7. Please keep yourself hydrated throughout the trek and fuel yourself with some energy bars, protein bars or any kind of snacks to maintain the energy level.
